Premature crown chakra opening and kundalini

Hi,

I’m currently experiencing some energetic problems and even though they are better than a few years ago I would love to get some feedback and support from someone who has already gone through the process. Right now it’s trial and error what works and what doesn’t which sometimes causes a few days of issues.
Here are my answers to the questions.

  1. What are your symptoms and how long have you had them? Are your symptoms primarily physical, psychological, or both?

I’m having issues since (what I think) was a kundalini awakening in 2017. I can get more into detail if that’s needed so feel free to ask. I’m trying to keep it short and just focus on what’s going on right now.
I think there are issues that are energy related even though they are very physical. I’m feeling energy primarily in the heart, third eye and head. I watched Tristan’s video about the premature crown chakra opening and relate very much to that. I’m experiencing a feeling like the top of my head is open. I’m having a hard time staying grounded, experience anxiety (since 2020) and a feeling like there’s too much energy in the body especially the head reagion.
Putting my attention on any part of the head makes the symptoms worse. I also feel sometimes a lot of energy in the bindu chakra.
It feels like there’s something going on in the heart chakra (this started in 2020). I already had a 24 hour ECG done in 2020 which didn’t show any problems. I’m having another one done in two weeks. A cardiac ultrasound was done 3 weeks ago but was normal. The regular ECG was normal as well. It seems I’m just prone to a faster heartbeat but that could also just be the anxiety during the doctors appointment or the excess amount of energy in my body in general.
It feels like energy that is moving or maybe stuck? in the heart area. Being in Satsang with teachers causes a lot of heat in the body, dizziness and pain in the heart chakra.
Sometimes when I lay down and accidently did something that agitated the energy I can feel my heartbeat in my whole body. It feels almost electric.
As I already mentioned I experience anxiety. But I’ve noticed that this calms down when I’m properly grounded.

My nervous system feels also fried. I’m having a hard time participating in regular life because everything is so intense. I mostly enjoy being in a quiet environment with dimmed lighting.
I also have random pain in the body. Like someone is poking me with a needle. It only lasts a few minutes and then shows up somewhere else in the body.
I also noticed that the energy builds up when I’m around other people. When I talk to friends & family (who aren’t into spirituality at all) for a few hours my body can’t hold the energy anymore, gets tense and starts shaking. It takes a few hours to calm down.
Even though there’s a lot of energy in the body I get easily exhausted like my body can’t really use the energy.
I also have migraines with auras (blurred vision and flickering lights). This started a year after my awakening. Doctors think that the cause is hormonal. I got medication for that which worked for a while but it started again in november 2024 while I had a very stressful job. Now I suspect that the cause is overwhelm. When I already know that I’m doing too much and my nervous system can’t handle it but I still don’t stop. But I’m not sure and need to monitor that longer.

  1. Are your symptoms ongoing, or intermittent? If intermittent, when are they most likely to occur – during what kind of activity and/or time of the day? Is your sleep affected?

Yes, my sleep is affected. This started again a few weeks ago. I already had that problem a few years ago.
Grounding is a constant problem. I feel better after doing something that’s very grounding but it starts again after a few hours.
Anxiety is only a problem when I’m not grounded.
The feeling that everything is so intense is constant but gets better as soon as I’m grounded.

  1. Do you consider your situation with kundalini to be the result of spiritual practices, or do you regard it to be spontaneous?

Spiritual practice. I didn’t know anything about this topic at all and had questionable guidance. I received what I now know as shaktipat. Did third eye meditations and kundalini yoga.

  1. What sort of spiritual practices have you been engaged in, if any? How long? How often? Are you aware that excessive spiritual practice can aggravate kundalini, often with a delayed reaction?

Yes, I’m aware of that. I cut down on spiritual practices and only do grounding meditations. I do yin yoga that is focused on the first three chakras everyday (this has already helped a lot). Sometimes when I have enough energy I do 20-30 minutes Hatha Yoga.
I tried Yoga Nidra for a while which at the beginning felt good but now as soon as I put any attention on the head or the heart it makes everything worse so I stopped two days ago.
Sometimes I’m doing slow intuitive movement and let the body lead the way.

  1. Do you consider yourself to be “sensitive” to spiritual practices? If so, with what practices, and what sort of measures have you taken to accommodate your sensitivity?

Yes, I’m very sensitive. I can’t do pranayama or intense forms of yoga. No meditations that are focused on the upper chakras. No Retreats. Self Inquiry causes dissociation. Satsangs or just talking to people who are further along the path make the symptoms worse as well. I stopped doing anything that causes the symptoms to get worse.

  1. Do you think drugs have contributed to your kundalini situation?
    No

  2. Have you experienced traumatic events in your life that may have a bearing on your current symptoms?

I had a very traumic life from early on and never really was in my body. So it makes sense to me that I’m having a hard time grounding and that my nervous system has a hard time.

  1. Is your sexual lifestyle affecting your symptoms? Are you aware that obsessively limiting sexual release can increase kundalini energy and symptoms?

I didn’t know that this causes issues but I will keep an eye on that. There’s not much sexual desire at all and I didn’t date for the last five years.

  1. What is your general diet? Are you aware that a lighter diet can stimulate kundalini?

Yes, I already noticed that. My diet is high in fiber and protein. I eat lots of meat and animal products. Some days a lot of sugar.
Fats are sometimes a problem. That depends on the day. I guess I’m very intuitive when it comes to my diet and let my body lead the way.
I can’t do a light diet or vegetarian at all because it feels like I’m floating.

  1. Do you engage in moderate exercise regularly, like walking, yard work, etc? Are you aware that regular exercise can help stabilize (“ground”) kundalini symptoms?

I do Yin Yoga daily 30-60 minutes. Some days 20-30 minutes Hatha Yoga in addition to that. Also intuitive movement.
Walking is a problem as well. Some days it’s okay but most of the time I’m so sensitive to light and everything that is around me that it causes issues as well.

  1. Are you a highly devotional person? Are you aware that excessive devotional activity, satsang or spiritual study can aggravate an active kundalini?

I only listen to videos now but I’m trying to keep it short and don’t do too much of that. Right now it’s mostly to find ways to learn how to make this whole process easier for the body.

  1. Are you engaged in ordinary daily activities like a job, school, family, parenting, social activity, service to others? Are you aware that such activities, undertaken without spiritual intention or expectations, can help ground excessive kundalini energies?

No. I’m having a hard time with that and get easily overwhelmed. I worked in 2023/2024 for a year and didn’t do anything spiritual. The feeling like the top of my head is missing went away but the strange feeling in my heart area, the anxiety and not being grounded stayed.

  1. Have you been examined and treated by a medical doctor or mental health professional for your symptoms in the past? If so, what was the result?

Yes. I get every physical symptom get checked out without any results.
I was in talk therapy for 3 years without any change. Worked with an anxiety coach for over a year. I got checked out by a psychiatrist and tried I think 10 different anti depressants which caused a lot of side effects but the anxiety never went away. The only thing that has helped was benzodiazepine but that only works for a few hours and after that the anxiety is worse than before.

  1. Are there other factors and/or measures you are taking in relation to your situation that are not covered above?

I think I already mentioned everything.

  1. Optional: What is your approximate age (teen, 20s, 30s, 40s, etc.)? What is your gender? We ask because the manifestation of kundalini symptoms can be affected by these factors.

I’m female and 37 years old.

Thank you for reading. I’m thankful for any tips

Hello Conny
Welcome to the forums
Can you please elaborate on that part you wrote?

“had a very traumatic life from early on and never really was in my body”

Sure. I grew up in a very unsafe environment and dissociation helped me to get through that. So I never was really connected with my body and what is going on there. It’s easy for me to cut myself off from it and don’t feel what’s happening. Through the years after my awakening and the work I’ve done this already got better. But it’s easy to forget my body sometimes when I’m doing things that don’t involve the body. For example during the time I was working I was just using my mind because I had an office job and even that disconnects me a lot and leaves me feeling ungrounded.

Welcome Conny, I’ll defer to others more knowledgeable. You most certainly had a premature awakening, your body was not prepared, and you have been suffering since, so many years…but keep grounding, find a way to be outside, dark shades and sun hats, finding a safe place to walk early morning or evening. If yin yoga is working, keep at it! Explore whatever is working, and notice when it doesn’t. As a stable yogi, yin real burns the inner fire, in a powerful way, so glad it is different for you. Becoming more aware of your body is a good thing, you are behind the curve here so practice this more (I’m 67 and have been dancing a year, and have never felt so much so). Being in your body in a real way (yin) should make things better in the long run.

Imagine energy flowing out your fingertips and toes, the palms and the soles, the heart, and eyes, even when they’re open. Find it in yourself to believe these are valves to radiate energy. Your attention has influence. Believe you can do this.

If you wish to be out of your head, place your attention at the solar center, between the third and fourth chakra, the center of your physical being.

Good luck, keep grounding, you are better every day if you act that way!

Hi Michael,

luckily I didn’t suffer the whole time. For the first three years there was little to no suffering even though there was energetically and emotionally a lot going on. I finally found what I was looking for my whole life and have experienced the love that this existence is made of. I couldn’t have been happier

I didn’t know that I can use my eyes and fingers etc. to release energy. That’s great information and I’ll definitely try that out.

Thank you so much for your tips

Hi Conny,

Thank you for your sharing.

It does sound as if you are moving in the right direction and getting things back into balance. I would agree with Michael, that if the light is too bright to go walking, use sunglasses. It is important to be able to get out and ground in nature.

If you have not already read it, then you may find lesson 69 helpful. That is here:

And you may find this video helpful on managing a painful kundalini awakening:

If too much prana is flowing to your crown chakra, causing uncomfortable symptoms, or instability, then you can use shambhavi mudra to draw the prana forward to the ajna chakra. That helped me during my crown opening.

If your grounding meditations help then you could continue with those, otherwise you could drop them in favour of walking and swimming etc.

I hope things settle down for you soon.

Thank you for your tips  They are really helpful.

I took a short walk in the evening the last two days and feel way more grounded. But the symptoms are getting stronger. The last two days there was a lot of shaking during my intuitive movement (doesn’t cause any pain or suffering so I just let it happen) and I’m on an emotional rollercoaster right now.

What I’m struggling with the most at the moment is the energy in the heart chakra. It feels so physical and intense and causes a lot of anxiety and suffering. Everything I try only works for a while and then it gets worse again.

Even though I know, because of my experiences, that there is really nothing to fear… The body and mind react with a lot of existential fear to that and it doesn’t take long until I get sucked into the story of the mind.
I’m having a really hard time to navigate that.
I already tried Yin Yoga with the focus on the heart chakra to make it easier for the energy to move but that made it even worse.

Do you have any tips that can assist with that?

I thought I already had a heart chakra opening when I had my awakening in 2017. It felt like a big explosion in my heart and after that there was so much love for everything that I cried a few times a day. That calmed down after a few months. So I’m not sure what exactly is going on right now. These issues started in 2020 which was also when the suffering started again after my awakening.

I don’t want to confuse you by contradicting what others have said, but I would like to warn you that asanas can be stimulating for kundalini.

I have personally overloaded in he past from spending over an hour each day in asanas, including a lot of yin yoga. But of course, follow your own body and intuition!

I have always found walking to be good for grounding and reading for when I don’t have the energy for walking - though I enjoying these activities when I’m grounded so I guess do whatever works for you :grinning:

Thanks for the heads up
I’ve noticed slow Yoga keeps the anxiety for me somewhat bareable. But I’m keeping a close eye on it because what works now can be too much tomorrow.

Interesting that reading helps you with grounding. I will definitely try that as well

I’m curious though… How do you assist the body to let go of energetic blockages?

I completely neglected the body for many years and only worked with the mind or energy work and that didn’t do me any good :grimacing:
