Hello I am curious about the differences of using an effortless mantra for the witness or samadhi compared to yogananda? I know srf teaches third eye and I’m curious as to why over we don’t meditate on the third eye like in srf
Really, AYP is just a different tradition to SRF, so naturally the practices differ. The same can be said of any other tradition. The AYP techniques are based on the principles outlined by Yogani, rather than by Yogananda.
In AYP looking up to the third eye is regarded a mudra, is called shambavi mudra and is done before deep meditation. It is used to encourage Prana to move up the body in conjunction with other mudras.
The mantra technique used is considered more effective at cultivating inner silence than third eye meditation, which is the other (arguably more important) part of the enlightenment equation.
Inner silence + ecstasy = unity
Also a mantra is arguably a stronger anchor…..we could go into all sorts of comparisons but the reality is that SRF and AYP are just different practices.
There is plenty of material on this in the lessons section of the AYP website if you want to know more.
