Here is an excerpt from chapter 9, of 12, in what is a substantial book,
in which I introduce Yogani and ‘Advanced Yoga Practices’ to the reader:
❝ And so now, it is at this point that I must make the most grateful mention
of an American yogi, author and teacher, who goes by the name of Yogani.
Eleven years ago at the time of ‘going to press’, in 2014, I became aware of him,
firstly through his book titled: ‘Samyama: Cultivating Stillness In Action, Siddhis & Miracles’.
This is in fact book five in a series of wonderful books, ‘The AYP Enlightenment Series’.
(AYP is short for Advanced Yoga Practices.)
It had been ‘hiding’ from me in plain sight, right there on Amazon,
and given the 2006 copyright date, had presumably been doing so for eight years!
But evidently I had not been ready for it until that moment.
Not only did this brilliant book fully explain samyama,
putting everything in context with regard to the philosophy and principles of it,
but it also gave detailed and precise instructions on how to put it into effective practice.
But there was much more! In going on to read all of Yogani’s other books,
I was delighted, reassured and honestly, amazed, given that he clearly is
a highly advanced Yogi, that he had evidently come to some almost identical conclusions
to myself, with regard to meditation and pranayama, and rather a lot more besides.
This would extend even to the fact that one of his favourite statements is:
“The guru is in you”, almost identical to a phrase I had been consistently using
for a number of years with mentees (eg people I had met through AA who were
interested in a yogic way of recovery), that phrase being: “The Guru is Within.”
Not only that, but the conclusions we had both come to, with regard to
what constituted an ideal meditation mantra for beginners, were as near
to being identical as to make virtually no difference. And our ideas with regard
to the optimum form of pranayama to begin with, in order to have the best return
on investment of energy and time, were also very close indeed.
I can scarcely convey to you, dear reader, just what a major boost this was
for me in terms of accelerating my own journey. Not only did I now have very definite
instructions for practice of samyama, which I just knew was the next addition I needed
to make to my sadhana regime, but I also had very strong confirmation that I was traveling
in a very good direction with all of the rest of it. Thank You, Yogani!!
Yet another thing that Yogani and I clearly have in common,
is that our preferred ‘default’ status is clearly one of privacy,
and avoidance of personal fame, something which he appears
never to have compromised, whereas I have chosen to do so,
since sticking my head above the social media parapet on LinkedIn a few years ago.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no photo or video of Yogani online,
although there is some audio of him being interviewed on radio, which is
posted on the ‘Advanced Yoga Practices’ YouTube channel, from around 14 years ago.
I would urge you to listen to this, and cannot recommend highly enough,
his whole series of books on enlightenment, as well as the website,
https://www.aypsite.org/, where he shares a rich wealth of advanced teaching,
completely free of charge, with a very reasonably priced option to upgrade for extras even beyond that!
I am not aware of Yogani ever having referred to himself as a ‘post-lineage’ yogi,
as I myself do. However, what we most certainly do have in common, is that both of us
have studied the principles, and sampled the practices of a good number of yogic traditions,
and seen that no single one of them ever gave the whole picture. This is why I emphasise
the importance, and value of an holistic and integrated approach.
And he and I also seem to agree to a considerable extent, that there is no good reason
in this modern age of worldwide-web communications and connectivity, for yoga practices
to be kept secret in any way. The more that is known about them the better!,
the only exception being the caveats I mention throughout this book,
with regard to the importance of being cautious and responsible
when it comes to sharing the more powerful kundalini-raising and/or crown-opening practices.
I do consider Yogani to be significantly further advanced along ‘The Way’ than I am,
although I do also imagine that he might agree with me, when I assert that the only difference
between one who is ‘enlightened’ and one who is not, is that the one who is ‘enlightened’ knows there is no difference!
P.S. During the weeks running up to the release of this text, I ‘reached out’ to Yogani by email,
to which he responded most graciously. He even gave me his blessing to mention the release
of my book in his AYP forum, along with general encouragement of my writing and other endeavours.
And he gave me permission to share this wonderful quote from our correspondence:
“The greatest siddhi/superpower is stillness in action and outpouring divine love.
That is what samyama is for, predicated on the cultivation of abiding inner silence (witness)
in daily deep meditation. And it works.” - Yogani. ❞
Those who acquire my book will also be subscribed
to a weekly 'Liberation Letter, as I am calling it.
And so, if you feel so moved,
I’ll look forward to our further correspondence.
And if not, many thanks indeed
for reading this post, and all the very best to you!
Cheers for now!, ![]()
