New Here – Excited to Begin This Journey with You All

Hello dear friends—my name is Ahmad Lashari, and I’m honored to join this supportive and insightful AYP community. I’ve been exploring the Advanced Yoga Practices lessons and am deeply drawn to their balance of clarity, practicality, and spiritual depth. I’m looking forward to crafting a daily practice grounded in Deep Meditation and Spinal Breathing Pranayama—and hopefully, over time, Samyama as well.

As a newcomer, I’m curious about your early learning experiences: what helped you feel grounded when starting out? Any key practices, pacing tips, or mindset approaches that made a meaningful difference? I look forward to learning from your journeys and sharing mine in return.

Thank you for welcoming me into this space of stillness, growth, and discovery.

Welcome Ahmad

I have been with AYP since 2013 and can attest to the effectiveness of these practices. My advice is to be disciplined with your routine, to always gently favor the mantra when you notice you have wandered off it, and to expect you may have to reduce practice times if purification of your neurobiology becomes uncomfortable for you. You have a lifetime to explore this journey so take your time immersing yourself in the vast amount of knowledge available to you here. Enjoy!

Hey Ahmad,

Welcome to the forum!

If I am overloading my secret weapon is a big plate of fish and chips! Nothing grounds me like a good heavy feed

Hi Ahmad,

I would say, don’t become overly fixated on getting all the bliss and the good things right now and have some patience. Of course, I am speaking from the perspective of a practitioner that is more on the sensitive side (though there have been fluctuations in sensitivity over time). You will figure out over time whether you also are on the sensitive side of things or on the less sensitive. This will help with self-pacing/grounding.

Of course, the standard advice of enjoying a walk a swim or some light exercise from time to time might also be helpful and it is super important to know this when you feel like you would like to ‘pull the brakes’ a bit on the meditation machine

All the best
Adrian

Ahmad, Welcome. It sounds like you are approaching this in a very grounded and thoughtful way. The yogic path is a personal journey with many unexpected vistas and detours. Approaching this journey with a curiosity and an open mind is critical. You do not know how you will feel or how things will play out as everyone has a different experience. The biggest surprise for me was this deep dive into myself revealed many buried emotions which have required my full attention and the willingness to make changes. Discernment of the correct course, i.e. developing intuition, is one of the hardest things to gain clarity on along the way. This forum is great for getting support and different perspectives, ultimately, we each have to learn to trust our inner knowing.
