Music and Prana: What makes you soar right now?

For a very long time after my spontaneous awakening, I couldn’t listen to music or watch TV at all. Even now, I still have to listen to music in moderation.

There is just something about music… The vibrations? The colors? Certain music makes the energy in my body completely soar—could it be that it stimulates prana? I’ve also developed this intense fascination with string instruments that I never had before.

What makes you guys soar right now? Please share what you’re listening to! All musical tastes and genres are warmly welcome here

Here are my personal favorites at the moment

Oh dear Smulan,

I could write endlessly about this topic! Music is so central for me and I’ve been a musician most of my life at this point. The ancients were on to something with the notion that all of the universe started as “sound” or vibration.

I posted a couple years ago about an album by a favorite artist of mine: Ritual by Jon Hopkins. He’s a meditator and pruposefully writes music with those states in mind. He knows what he’s doing for sure. It was new when I originally posted, but it’s turned out ot be one of my favorite albums of all time, and I still listen to it frequently and even have a signed album poster hanging in my workshop to remind me what can be achieved through art! It inspires me greatly in my life.

I’ll check out the music you’ve linked! Thank you so much for sharing and for a great topic!

I also sometimes have a strong reaction to music, depending on how much prana I feel that day etc.

My taste is pretty varied though and I actually like heavy music a lot. In the past I have spent about a year in something like an ashram and once got scolded there because of my unsattvic taste in music :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

one of my favorite (heavy) songs at the moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoQT053jRTo

another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHhh41Z2vMs

But I also like all kinds of classical or world music etc.

This I find very cleansing because of the overtones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0YKDFq_4Uc

Some medieval chants are also very nice, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wOrr9NvlTk

And Bach was absolutely great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6sUlZa-IrU&t=22s

Also kind of strange but funny, I find the sound of some racecar engines very energetically pleasing :joy: , like this one (skip to 1:30) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yceb3UAtTj0 or this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZY5xYefRAQ&t=321s (especially, I feel that one very intensely in my spine! :high_voltage: )

How exciting, David! Do you play any instruments, or do you sing? I don’t have a musical bone in my body myself, but I can imagine it must be an amazing way to express your creativity and energy

I will definitely check out the album you shared, it’s a new name for me so that will be exciting. Thank you!

So it’s not just me then! I used to have no issues with music before, but nowadays my nervous system gets overwhelmed pretty easily. I’m a bit more selective with what I listen to overall right now, but I definitely wouldn’t want to live without it.

My taste in music is really broad too. I’m absolutely going to check out your playlist—hahah, love the last one :joy: I can get really hooked on certain sound frequencies in music, though I’ve never actually tried listening to racing cars. Who knows, maybe it’ll be a new favorite! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Smulan!

I’m a strings fan too, I play the guitar and fiddle. I love the 60’s singer song writer stuff like Simon and Garfunkel, Joan Baez, Jim Croce and James Taylor. I also like Jose Gonzales, Ben harper, Ben Howard and Jack Johnson. Anything with just a voice and a guitar really!

I find with media like tv or music that it’s often my connection to the words or the scene that prompts a reaction. I’ve narrowed it down to any lyric or scene that promotes unity, or brings people together, my heart fills up and I want to cry. According to Jungian thought this is an unconscious expression of desire for unity, which fits.

Haven’t unfortunately got to a stage where my body is flooded with ecstasy whilst listening to music, but I have my midday naps for that
