Morning Routine

I have managed to incorporate all of my usual daily toolkit (asanas, stretching, dance, breath, exercise, DM) into a simple full body twenty minute routine. I still do them, this routine represents them, it’s simply balancing on one foot while listening to kirtan, with a gently engaged core and erect spine. By allowing the music and body to meld and the mind to surrender control, the balancing moments unfold in amazing ways.

The lifted foot is free to be, the body moves in flow, or holds a pose. When I lose balance but want to stay I tap the toe and resume, no one here but me to judge, or care. The standing leg will tire and the music carries me to sway on both feet in transition to the other side.

This body is awakened for the day, the mind quiet the shushumna open, ready for whatever unfolds, full of the fruits of years of yoga practices that hope to find knowing.

Thank you for reminding me
of balance. Balance, if
I remember right, works as a
wake-up physiologically.

Agree Wil, to balance is to reduce your connection to the Earth to basically a point, and the rest of the body then flows in space, freer to express itself. As I grow into this conductive body, not only is there the daily/eternal “who am I?, so is asking this body “who are you?” and expression happens, in real time, in surprising ways, inviting the pleasure of purification and movement.
