Light Rings

Hi everyone,
Now that we can put pictures in our posts, I wanted to share some artwork with the community. I’ve been making these light rings since 2016 and have slowly been expanding and improving on it over the years. I recently got one together in time to bring with me on a road trip from Michigan to California where I wanted to see what the lights would look like out in nature. I found that the lights are barely visible outside (especially in daylight!), but in an unexpected twist the ring took on a compelling form of its own as a sculpture in the landscape. This is my biggest passion project and I think of it as a physical expression of my life’s Drishti. I joke with my friends that I am on an art mission, and I’m so happy to be able to finally share it with you all!

Dreamweaver, These are exceptional. Thanks for sharing. I love the simplicity and the way they enhance all environments you place them. They are like a portal into transcendence.

Truly awesome

I love gates and doorways standing in the middle of nowhere. They draw me into elsewhere. Your light circles have the same effect, even more powerful, in fact. I would love to see them live.

Sey

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share more pics from my adventures with the light ring. This past spring I went camping with some friends and took it along with us. I got to hike with it for the first time and even found a small cave to meditate with it for a moment. I had people ask me about it on the trail, and it was fun to engage with them. In all, it brought a lot of joy to our trip, and that was fulfilling. I’m not entirely sure where any of this is going, but I’m going to keep on doing it and see what unfolds!

Wow, these images are powerful! I love how the (man made) disc coexists in balance with nature, much like the heads on Easter Island or the pillars of Stonehenge.

Hi everyone,

I just got back from my second road trip out West with the light ring and I want to share some photos. While the light ring project is a decade old, it was only last year that I discovered the joy of taking photos of it out in nature. The trip itself was a sort of ceremony or ritual that I planned extensively for. However, almost everything that I intended or wanted went sideways or didn’t happen. What luck! But, in the end, I’m still happy with what I was able to capture.

There are two locations in these photos, both of which are close to my heart. The first location is the Bonneville Salt Flats in northern Utah. So expansive, so silent, so otherworldly. The second location is the North Fork American River Valley in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Specifically, this is a trailhead called Euchre Bar. Photos do not do justice to the depth and scale of this place. I used to live just a few minutes away and would drive there in the mornings to sit in contemplation. I consider this my true home.

Also, there is something about the sun in relation to the ring, especially in the last photo, that reminds me of something yogic. Maybe it’s the third eye, maybe something to do with the concept of ecstatic conductivity or a central brightness in the nervous system. I’m not sure I know what I’m talking about, but it feels instinctually correct and would love to hear any thoughts.

Love you all :folded_hands:

David, These are wonderful. I love how you’ve taken a very meaningful object and used it as a vehicle for reflection and transformation of both the creator and observer.
