I guess I might already know the answer, but I am desperate and need approval from experts to be for sure.
I used your AI chat (amazing new tool, well done for this new function ) and I believe what I am going through for the past nearly 3 years is the flywheel effect of purification. I have tried to self pace and stopped practices all togetherat some point because the prana surge has become too intense (even spinal breathing is too intense) and unbearable that I needed to focus on grounding. I keep feeling prana stir in my stomach or other regions then having to exhale and making weird noises and feel the pain and blockages in my throat area intensly to a point where I get headache or am exhausted. Then the prana wont stop and keeps coming up wanting to be release which is even more tiresome. I also keep getting prana surge whenever I read about sprituality, psychology or anything related. So my questions are:
Should I stop all current practices and focus on grounding again? If so, my concern is whether my system will continue to progress and clear blockages on its own, or if I need to actively engage in the purification process.
I am losing hope and am afraid that the suffering wont end anytime soon and I feel like I need to do something to make any progress. How can I trust the process if I dont see any progress at all? Its been nearly 3 years without any improvement of my blockages. I even doubt the authenticity of my kundalini awakening process because of the constant suffering. Will it eventually end? What are signs of the next stage?
I have never experience what other describe, Kundalini energy shooting up from the bottom of my spine coming out of the crown chakra. Will this experience come later eventually when the purification has advanced or is it something that not all people go through? I am asking because I doubt my awakening process, but then again all the symptoms are pointing to a Kundalini awakening process (pranotthana purification) and confirmed by multiple sources.
I apologise for the long post. I havent posted in a while and have actually done research on this website and other forums on reddit as well. I guess I needed to reach out to you because I am feeling rather desperate and insecure at this point.
I must say that I am very grateful that you are providing such an amazing platform for people to research and learn and find it amazing that you have implemented the AI tools to make things easier for us to look up.
I am looking for your response and thank you in advance.
It does sound as if you would be very wise to stop all spiritual practices for some time, including reading about spirituality or psychology. Focussing on grounding for the time being would be of much more help. Purification will continue for some time.
If you can devote several hours each day to grounding practices, that would be good. If that does not help, then increase to four or five hours a day. Walking, swimming, spending time in nature, gardening, cleaning the house, cooking etc. Try to avoid sport or weight lifting as these can increase the flows of prana in the body.
I would suggest giving it at least a few months to see if things calm down and the pain goes away. Usually people are able to find a stable, pain-free place in just a few days, or weeks. But for others, it can take longer. Eat heavier food than normal during this time and avoid tantric sexual practices.
Progress on the spiritual path, when in an unbalanced state is always slow. So, you will make much faster progress once you have become stable.
There is a free Self-Pacing and Grounding Flow Chart which can be downloaded from here:
You may also find this video which I put on Youtube on managing painful kundalini awakenings helpful.
thanks for the sources. I downloaded your slide and watched the video. I seem to still have issue finding the right balance between practices, self pacing and grounding.
How exactly does becoming more stable look like to you? My energy is never stable and I keep feeling it 24/7 365x3 years, even if I just sit on my couch and watch tv. I feel energy being stirred in my stomach and wanting to come up, feeling automatic head movement or eyes squeeze shut by itself. There was a time I stopped everything for nearly a year and still can feel the energy surge most of the time. Does that mean I need to stop all practices + reading anything spirtual for good?
Nadi Sodhana + Meditation + awareness meditation + spinal breathing = all painful and can do max 5-10 min if at all.
I would say that feeling stable means that you would feel fine and experience nothing uncomfortable, or painful, at any point during the day. You may still feel energy in your body and still experience automatic energy movements from time-to-time, but as long as you are not experiencing anything uncomfortable, that is stability.
You do not need to stop all practices for good. Only until you are stable. Even then, I would wait a few weeks before taking up spiritual practices again. And continue with the grounding practices, perhaps for a few months after becoming stable. Purification continues for quite some time under the hood, even when practices are stopped.
Some people find that concentrating on something like a TV, or a computer screen can cause prana to stir in the body, making symptoms worse. If that is happening for you, then you may have to stop watching TV, or using computer screens for a while.
And you certainly should not be doing nadi shodhana, or meditation, or Spinal Breathing, if they are painful to do.
Hello Cookie, sorry to hear of your troubles. I agree with all of what Christi advises, especially around grounding. Here’s some additional things you can try to ground energy: place your third eye on the ground in child’s pose, imagining prana radiating into the floor. Practice imagining prana flowing (radiating) out of your fingertips and palms, out of your toes and feet pads, on your breath, out of your heart center, and of course the third eye.
My journey has been stable, so I have not experienced much discomfort this past dozen years. Discomfort is really the basis on whether one should to reduce practices. I, too, feel prana throughout the day and can arouse prana without much effort, which registers here as subtle pleasure mostly in the background until it amplifies in intentional silence. I even had to relearn how to dissolve into sleep because of the arousal present. Perhaps inquire of yourself how you experience sensation and how you may have some influence, with imagination attention, or intent.
One more question. After 3 years of purification, how come I don’t see any changes within me?
I am still insecure, have rumination after social interaction and have the same core negative believe system… also no blissful state as many of you have achieved. On rare occasion I do feel bliss during deep meditation or once when I was half awake in my sleep and thought mother goddess I devote to was visiting me..
I seem to be also very forgetful these days, not sure if it has anything to do with purification or something else.
So is it normal not to feel or see any changes after years of purification? Or am I doing something wrong?
Three years is a very short amount of time to have been on the spiritual path for. Usually progress is made over decades, or lifetimes.
That is fantastic that you have occasionally tasted bliss during Deep Meditation practice. It is rare for someone to have bliss experiences in just a few short years. This is a good sign that purification is happening.
All of the instability that you have been experiencing is also caused by inner purification taking place. In that case though, it is an excess of inner purification.
It does sound as if once you have become stable, and are able to manage things so that you remain stable, you will be able to make very good progress.
