Help with right and left energy

Two years ago, I felt a snake crawling up my back to the point between my eyebrows and saw a light. I wasn’t doing meditation, fasting, or other religious practices. It happened suddenly in bed. Since then, I’ve experienced many symptoms like heat, lucid dreams, itching in my left foot, sweating, and insomnia. Over time, my symptoms worsened, especially on the right side, with inflammation and hardness in the chest and abdomen area, and shortness of breath. Based on what I read, I assumed my right energy, or pingala, had activated. So, I did pranayama and other practices to awaken the left side or ida nadi. A few days ago, I managed to activate the left side, but it started spinning with the right energy in a counterclockwise direction, like a whirlwind in my body. Gradually, it descended from my head to my waist, forming a circle that spins to the left, and I feel my body being pushed to turn left. However, at night, the intensity decreases, and it seems to stop spinning, and I feel normal without symptoms. I’ve noticed that pingala flows from my left foot to the right side of my chest, and ida nadi flows from my right foot to the left side of my chest. Now, symptoms like heat and inflammation, especially on the right side, have decreased. Can someone explain if what’s happening to me is correct or not? What practices should I do now? What might happen to me in the future? It’s hard for me to understand what’s happening, and I’m afraid something bad might happen. I appreciate your responses.

I don’t do any special practices now. Before the experience of the energy belt around my waist, I did some days of spinal meditation, but I stopped. Pranayama calmed my symptoms a bit, like inflammation and hardness in the chest, especially on the right side. That’s why I tried to raise the energy from the left hip up during meditation with my consciousness. I succeeded, and then a whirlwind of energy formed, and later a circle like a belt around my waist spinning to the left, where it seems the two energies mix. Now I don’t do any practices. The symptoms have decreased. As practices, I only walk, stretch my body, and walk barefoot.

Hi Raul,

It sounds as if you are doing the right thing by avoiding all spiritual practices for the time being. Focussing on grounding practices for now, such as walking, swimming, working in the garden etc. will help you to stabilize. One you are stable, and have been stable for a few weeks, you could introduce daily meditation to your schedule. This is described in English in this lesson and in Spanish here.

This will help you to cultivate inner silence and equanimity which are two of the most important qualities to cultivate for moving effectively through the energetic aspect of a spiritual awakening.

Then, after a few months, if you are still stable, you could add some gentle Spinal Breathing Pranayama to your practice. This is described in English in this lesson and in Spanish here. Spinal Breathing will help to balance the energies between the right side and the left side, gradually bringing them into the central channel. It will also help to balance the energies between the higher and lower chakras.

There is no need to use nadi shodhana, chandra bheda pranayama, or surya bheda pranayama, or any other technique, to try to balance the side channels, as Spinal Breathing Pranayama will work. This is discussed in English in this lesson.

Thank you for your response. Regarding my experience, is it normal for the ida and pingala energy, when rising, to form a whirlwind that spins to the left and then descends together to the base of the whirlwind, that is, to the waist, forming a circle like an energy belt at the level of the hips where these two energies mix? Is what happened to me part of the process or can it be bad? In the books I’ve read, they don’t mention forming a circle like a belt, they only say that ida and pingala rise and cross over, reaching the ajna chakra.

All sorts of things can happen energetically during the process of awakening of kundalini. It is not bad, and I am sure that nothing bad will happen to you. It is simply a sign that you are awakening. The important thing to do now is to stabilize yourself first of all, and then develop a spiritual practice that is both safe and effective.
