Just a recurring thought that emmerges a few months ago:
I was just wondering if death of the physical body could be considered as an enlightement ? In fact you are not attached to your sensations, or anything physical anymore, you become the witness of it. The ego, and all the ego-driven personnalities will also die at the moment of physical death.
In that perspective, there’s no spiritual practices to be done, all you want to achieve is pure illusion, only creates attachement to the result, only death is certain.
I guess „enlightenment“ is a term that describes the dissolution of the ego in the form of understanding that it does not exist as seperate entity but that there is rather only ONE reality/god/conciousness and „I am that“
It is in that sense different because in case of death it is not certain that the ego gains the understanding that it is ONE with reality and therefore it is not the same. Sages say that if enlightenment has not been reached in this life the mind will form another world to start another search. Rebirth.
Regarding what you said. The confusion lies in the perception that „Now“ and „Being dead“ are two different states of being. One with forms and the other without forms. The ego sees itself as form hence the concept of life and death.. but that what is, transcends both, form and formless and is the eternal reality…
That is really interesting Niels, consider a state of really deep inner silence where you are totally disconnected from the sense (Pratyahara), this is what death could feel like? Then depending on your level of “Enlightenment” your actual death would/could be at that level. Then like Philipp said you are either liberated or you reincarnate !?! Death is the ultimate Pratyahara! Where the One soul reside.
I think you are making some assumptions that may not necessarily be true. I also think of the implications of physical death a lot. When we have become aware of the eternalness of our Self, beyond existing and passing away, it is easy to conclude that physical death will get you there. But will it? Or will we simply become aware of an elsewhere (or back here) without ever understanding that it is just more phenomena arising in/on our eternal Self?
When there is enough inner silence, one starts to feel that jnana yoga resonate with him/ her
Both birth and death are an illusion perpetuated by the illusionary separate self
So, death does not lead to enlightenment
And practices are needed
Furthermore the goal of yoga is to have a liberated persona that lives and deals with life as it happens…the goal is a bigger involvement in reality not escapism
