Could this be sexual energy transmutation?

I have a question about transmutation of sexual energy and prana.

When I woke up this morning, I felt a strong sexual energy in my sacral area. I sat down and did some postures that help me sit more comfortably for meditation, since my legs tend to fall asleep quite easily.

When I sit in the Vajrasana position my lower back and spine suddenly straighten on their own. I then feel a strong, heavy pressure coming from below that slowly moves upward along the back of my spine.

When it reaches the heart and then the throat, my head naturally tilts backward and my lungs fill with air. At that point, it feels as though I could hold my breath almost indefinitely. I actually have to remind myself, “I should probably take a breath now.”

Afterwards, I feel very calm, and the sexual energy that was pressing before is no longer there.

Could this be what is referred to as the transmutation of sexual energy?

lots of Love

Hi Jessica,

Yes, this is part of the process of the transmutation of sexual enegy. Prana is moving in the body, and sexual energy stored in the pelvic region is moving upward towards the higher chakras. Experiences like the one you had a very purifying. It is fine if the breath suspends, even if it is for a long time. Eventually breathing will start again. The reason the breath suspends is because upward-flowing prana is related to the inbreath and when the upward flowing prana suspends in the higher centres, the breath will also suspend. And the head coming back and spine straightening are related to prana flowing strongly in the sushumna nadi.

Thanks for taking the time to explain Tristan. I had a feeling that might be what it was, but it’s always reassuring to have it confirmed by someone with more experience. I’ll go through the lessons you referred to below.

Yes. That is kundalini. Now, this is an experience you may expect to repeat each time you sit down for meditation - the stirring of kundalini to “set you straight”.

Hi all,

And also don’t forget the importance of having no expectations! :slightly_smiling_face:
