Hi all,
Is grounding similar to mindfulness, in the sense of reconnecting to what’s around me through my physical senses ?
Thanks

Hi Cosmos,
No, that is not the same. In fact, mindfulness practice is the opposite of grounding. If someone is experiencing too much energy in their body, then being more aware of things happening around them can increase the energy and make any negative symptoms worse.
Grounding means doing gentle physical activities such as walking in nature, swimming, working in the garden, cleaning the house etc. It is mostly the actual physical movements that are grounding, although being in nature can have a grounding effect that is independent of moving.
There is more on grounding in this lesson:
And in this video that I filmed for YouTube:
Very informative indeed! Thank you
What about practices such as feeling one’s own weight and/or the pull of gravity on the body, is that grounding or to be avoided if one wants to ground?
Hi Cosmos,
Everyone is different, but usually anything that brings awareness into the body will increase prana, and increase any uncomfortable symptoms. This may not be the case for everyone.
If you are experiencing instability and energetic overload, then you could try it and see if it helps, or not? If you are unsure, I would leave it out. It is not one of the classic grounding methods that generally works for most people.
This is what I was saying with regard to a chat about t’ai chi or qigong for grounding a few weeks back. I find so much stillness in these kinds of practices that it’s anything but grounding! A long walk and a big meal is my go-to ![]()
