I have been experimenting with various patterns of breathing and came
to the conclusesion that the following way of breathing while
meditating is the best way of enhancing the experience.
Breathe in and out for 4 sec. 7times. Take a deep breath lasting 8
sec, hold the breath 8 sec. while doing spinal breathing or the
microcosmic orbit and breathe out concentrating on in inner silence,
if possible for 16 sec.
You can enhance this experience by visualizing the colors of and
concentrating on the chakras. You can also visualize one color, for
example white while concentrating on each chakra prospectively, as
you breathe. I ussually visualize white, pink, indigo, blue, green,
yellow, orange, red and gold and energize each of the seven chakras
with color, starting with the crown chakra and ending with the root
chakra.
I hope you found this useful.

Just FYI.
There should not be any effort to hold the breath inside , or time the breath inhale and exhale , as one keeps on doing it regularly it get regulated , by holding the breath one is creating more troubles in the name of Yoga.

Holding the breath after inhale and/or exhale, extending the inhale and/or
exhale, bellows breath (breath of fire), alternate nostril breathing, etc.
etc. are all very much a part of a Yoga practice – generally a more
advanced Yoga practice. They would be beneficial before meditation (as is a
Yoga practice) or at the very start of a meditation to help you quiet your
mind and focus on your breathing (if that is the tool you use – breath, I
mean). During meditation, because we are trying to quiet our minds, we
usually focus on one thing – like the feel of the breath at the nostrils, a
mantra or sound, sometimes even a candle flame, etc.
Every one’s mind is different, so may react better to one technique than to
another.

I used equal amounts, for example 4/4/4 up to 20/20/20 (seconds ,of course)
I found the 20/20/20 the best, but it is the hardest .
