•The Other

Animal, oh, what an animal!
He’d race away at full gallop,
Lay his hands upon the banal,
And turn it into one grand ball.

But then, what torment, what dismay!
Back to the oasis straightaway,
To watch, to look, to see and gaze:
An arrow from the sun… a ray.

Now newly blinded, stooping low,
Again he longs to fall down flat,
To neither feel nor even know
The slightest proof of any truth.

For it hurts him, and it stings,
And inside his soul there stirs
A sense both swift and sharpened keen,
Which lied to him through bitter tears.

And then, to recognize at last
What desire itself would birth,
To feel, his jaw clenched hard and tight,
The innocence that he has pierced.

And so his shadow now appears,
A shadow such as no one bears,
Whose vague content, still dimly known,
Has done him in, has done him so…

A shadow vast, a depth profound,
In torment pulls and drags him down,
And strikes him from behind, below,
Like Satan with swift karate blows.

Green leaf, flowers born at dawn,
How you too would like to soar,
To feel upon your brow and hair
The mighty breath of mountain air.

Golden bells and whispered words
Rise from soul and rise from mind,
And from out the tortured chest,
A strong emotion, a sigh escapes.

And love among the thoughts resides,
In quietness and peace abides,
Like meaning dwelling between lines,
Which neither acts, nor even tries.

Love and peace and radiant light!
Man would have them come in sight;
But he himself stands in his way…
A knot in fate, to his dismay.
