Advice on doing only meditation and samyama?

Hello AYP.

I have been having a little trouble maintaining my practice, and so, I am striving for self-pacing.

Samyama is my favourite practice, what I am wondering is, would it be okay to be doing only DM and Samyama? Lets say, 20 minutes DM and one repetition of each sutra. Keeping it on the low end, but I just cant “bear” to not do it, lol.

What are your guys thoughts on that? Would DM and pranayama be “better”? I just dont feel like I will be able to “juggle” all three of them, my practice seems to become strenuous instead of easy. But I like samyama much more than spinal breathing, it is what brings me “good results” day-to-day the most.

Also, brahmacharya is always being favoured, as well.

I’d appreciate any thoughts on this.

Hi Jonathas,

None of the AYP practices are compulsory, so there is no need to practice any pranayama if you do not want to. If someone was practicing meditation and asked what the next most obvious practice to add to it was, I would say Spinal Breathing Pranayama. But not everyone follows that path and there is no need to. If you are more drawn towards Samyama then it is fine to practice meditation and Samyama only. And there is no need to limit your Samyama practice unless you are doing so due to self-pacing reasons or time constraints. It would be fine to practice meditation for 20 minutes and then Samyama for 10, or 20 minutes followed by a rest period.
