Hi Tristan, just to confirm the “J” shape of directing the breath where it starts from the perineum and makes a small curve to the coccyx before travelling up the spine is correct?
Hi Finkle,
Yes, that is correct. The attention starts at the perineum which is between the anus and scrotum for men, and between the anus and the entrance to the vagina for women. The spine goes up the back of the body, so the attention has to move from the perineum back towards the spine and then up.
Be careful not to overthink this. Remember that the path of the spinal nerve is imaginary to begin with and does not completely correlate to the physical anatomy. Over time the path will change as the felt-sense of the prana flowing begins to take over. So, whatever you start out with when you do come to begin Spinal Breathing Pranayama is not too important. You started Deep Meditation 16 days ago, so it will still be a few more weeks, or months, before it is time to begin Spinal Breathing if you decide to add that to your practice.
Yeah, I do not intend to start Spinal Breathing so soon; I was just caught up on the specifics of it while reading through the lessons.
