I started doing mulabanda as an enhancement to SBP and I am confused about the mechanics. It has been about 2 weeks. At frst there was a lot of automatic yoga but that has died down. I notice that when i contract the sphincter, i cannot do full yogic breathing. i.e. when i contract the sphincter muscle and do mula banda on the inhale, my lower abdomen goes in(in an uddiyana banda type way) instead of out like in full yogic breathing. Is this how it is supposed to be?
Also for the past week i really do not feel anything during the sessions. It is like one big blackout so i would appreciate some help on that front too.
Hi Atlas,
Just a gentle compression of the sphincter as per Lesson 55. It can vary according to preference or natural energy flow. Always gentle, barely perceptible. As it refines, the energy will be noticed more than anything physical.
In full yogic breath we start with belly expanding and it goes in as the breath goes higher with lungs expanding upward, and the reverse coming down. Mulabandha can coordinate with that, or go its own way. It is not an exact thing.
Regarding “automatic yoga movements” and “blackout” these are signs of purification happening. It will change over time. Just keep going, being mindful not to overdo. If you feel good during the day outside practices, even with blackout happening during practices, you know you are doing just right. The results are in our daily life. Experiences can be anything during practices, according to purification occurring.
All the best!
The guru is in you.
