Do realize that it is not you who moves from dream to dream, but the dreams flow before you, and you are the immutable witness. No happening affects your real being - that is the absolute truth.
In reality there is only the source, dark in itself, making everything shine. Unperceived, it causes perception. Unfelt, it causes feeling. Unthinkable, it causes thought. Non-being, it gives birth to being. It is the immovable background of motion. Once you are there, you are at home everywhere.
I do not know bad people, I only know myself. I see no saints nor sinners, only living beings.
The question of resistance [to reincarnation] does not arise. What is born and reborn is not you. Let it happen, watch it happen.
Then, even in the body, you are not born. To be embodied or bodyless is the same to you. You reach a point when nothing can happen to you. Without body, you cannot be killed; without possessions, you cannot be robbed; without mind, you cannot be deceived. There is no point where a desire of fear can hook on. As long as no change can happen to you, what else matters?
Why not investigate the very idea of body? Does the mind appear in the body or the body in the mind? Surely there must be a mind to conceive the “I-am-the-body” idea. A body without a mind cannot be ‘my body’. ‘My body’ is invariably absent when the mind is in abeyance. It is also absent when the mind is deeply engaged in thoughts and feelings.
Break the bonds of memory and self-identification and the shell [of the person] will break by itself. There is a centre that imparts reality to whatever it perceives. All you need is to understand that you are the source of reality, that you give reality instead of getting it, that you need no support and no confirmation. Things are as they are because you accept them as they are. Stop accepting them and they will dissolve. Whatever you think about with desire or fear appears before you as real. Look at it without desire or fear and it does lose substance. Pleasure and pain are momentary. It is simpler and easier to disregard them than to act on them.
What begins and ends is mere appearance. The world can be said to appear, but not to be. The appearance may last very long on some scale of time, and very short on another, but ultimately it comes to the same. Whatever is time-bound is momentary and has no reality.

That’s a nice one emc
This discussion reminds me of a video Jill shared with us a while back. This video is quite interesting, and not what you think when you first begin watching:

such a beautiful quote , Balance!
thank you
“Why do you talk of action? Are you acting ever? Some unknown power acts and you imagine that you are acting. You are merely watching what happens, without being able to influence it in any way.”

And how about when we do something and it feels wrong? And then we do something else and it feels right? There must be a degree of free will in there. I might eat chocolate all the time only to find out that it makes me sick afterwards and still, knowing that, I eat it. After suffering for a while I realise I won’t eat chocolate anymore because it makes me sick. Then, paradoxically, I am free and feel happier than ever, because I am doing what feels right for me. But who decided what feels right for me in the first place? In any case, I always have the choice to do or not to do. Of course you can argue that the less you do, the better you will be, the less here being the less interefering with what the heart wants deep inside you. But the fact that you can interfere (call it the mind or wahtever) means that you are choosing. And the trick is to know and be well connected to what your heart really wants, which is the tricky part. Otherwise we would all be blissful and happy all the time, which is what we want. The fact that many of us don’t have it means we have “free will”. Or at least it seems we do, but at the end the higher power always wins, right? May it be for the best.
“There is no need of a way out [of the dream]! Don’t you see that a way out is also a part of the dream? All you have to do is see the dream as dream. The very idea of going beyond the dream is illusory. Why go anywhere? Just realize that you are dreaming a dream you call the world, and stop looking for ways out. The problem is not the dream. Your problem is that you like one part of your dream and not another. Love all, or none of it, and stop complaining. When you have seen the dream as a dream, you have done all that needs be done.”

Haha, I got this one as “The quote of the day”:
I realize this is what I’ve been spending so much time with during these years on the journey…
Beloved friends
Thank you for this thread.
It is beautiful to see Nisargadatta honoured here by so many. He is my constant companion for decades. I read his texts every day, I do japa on his name constantly, I worship his image and presence as Siva. He is my ishta-guru, my heart, my Self. His teaching is true, sound as a bell, he asked for nothing from anyone except their sincerity and courage.

[If you are still dreaming] it is because you have not really understood that you are dreaming. This is the essence of bondage - the mixing of the real with the unreal. In your present state, only the sense “I am” refers to reality; the “what” and the “how I am” are illusions imposed by destiny, or accident.
‘Freedom is the surrender of all self-concern. It cannot be done. It happens when you realise your true nature.’
This is the quotation from Nisargadatta Maharaj which, more than any other, has lit my path.
